Initial Planning

Emma Soloman - Pre Design

Cafe/bar/relax
A flexible space with a transformable aspect through the use of moveable furniture to have the ability to provide for full capacity or adjust to the numbers it requires. A good indoor outdoor flow with shelter kept in mind to the space is not abandoned in the winter months.

Division of space
Looking at ways of dividing a large space so it can be occupied comfortable by sever clicks. A visually appeasing layout from birds eye view so space can be admired from upstair Te Aro Hihiko. Creating that division and pathways through contrast in materiality and textures. Allowing places to inhabit but also places just for aesthetics and (uninhabitable) E.G tussock, water areas.

Example of contrasting materiality that makes interest from a viewing perspectives.

Pockets of sunshine, inhabitable still on a rainy day.

Studio pods/ flexible event space
Areas where classes have the potential to work outside during day hours and can also double as stage space for gigs and performance. maybe even gallery installation space. Shelter is key.

Zoning method 1
Providing furniture in the space may suggest different places for rest / relaxing, study / studio space, playing / activity, and performance / interactivity. This may be ideal when dealing with separating quiet areas from the noisy or active zones.

Zoning method 2
Creating a transformable and fluctuating space (in this case, transformable furniture) allows people to use it at different times and it gives them the ability to change the space to meet their needs. It gives uses and staff the option of opening up the area for larger groups or providing numerous zones for smaller groups - an optimal idea in regards to changing the space for day time and night time events. The flexibility of the space can completely change the atmosphere and mood.

Zoning method 3
Lighting can be used to effectively create zones and it may help to direct the flow of people through the space. It can highlight and accentuate certain areas, and can completely transform a space by establishing an atmosphere.

Zoning method 4
Using fencing, barriers or shelter can adequately separate spaces or establish zones in the space.

Zoning Method 5
Making various figurations with the materials may suggest different uses for the space. This structure is ultimately built into the environment as it becomes the park itself, as opposed to a simple stand-alone piece of furniture. These jagged forms in the timber imply a place for sitting or relaxation, while the flat surface proposes a transitional space.

Madison Duxfield - Pre Design

Zones
Divide the space into three main zones: Eating/bar area (shown as the caravans), Entertainment area (a outdoor theatre, that could double as a classroom) and a Relaxing area. The space needs to be interchangeable for winter and summer as well as night and day.

Precedents

Furniture that can be adjusted.

Materiality: I like the mix of different outdoor floorings and linear lines.

Luuk Abernethy - Pre Design

Looking at different elevations and materiality, e.g. use of lots of grass and timber. A central structure could have multi-functionality, used for musical events or as food/bar place.
